A summer program in the historic city center of Lucera, Italy, Chamber Music Campania’s Vocal Institute provides a unique opportunity for young singers to acquire the necessary skills of professional performers today.

The program includes:
  • private lessons and coachings with an exceptional faculty in the field of opera, chamber music, and musical theater
  • regular Italian lessons taught by a native speaker
  • an acting-for-singers class
  • a seminar-style musicology course on the topic of Italian opera, giving emphasis to works performed at the Vocal Institute
  • two to three weekly performances of arias, duets, and select scenes with the institute’s collaborative pianist
  • a culmination concert, in which participants perform select Italian arias, duets, and scenes, accompanied by the Fiati Five wind quintet, a chamber ensemble that makes classical music accessible by playing in non-traditional venues
  • cultural excursions in Lucera and its neighboring cities

In its first year, this one-of-a-kind educational program prepares its participants for the realities, challenges, and excitement of being a singer. Just as importantly, the Vocal Institute exposes participants to southern Italian history, language, and food through interactive concerts and conversations with the Lucera community.
